HTC company is reportedly going to release a smartphone- HTC Exodus, with a native blockchain network for crypto trading between users. This smartphone contains a cryptocurrency wallet and Cryptokitties which is an Ethereum-based game.
The company’s plan for HTC Exodus
HTC, based in Taiwan, introduced its blockchain smartphone project, the HTC Exodus, on May 15. This smartphone is going to support both the Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) networks. According to The Verge the company’s plan is to create a product with “a native blockchain network using Exodus phones as nodes that support cryptocurrency trading between users.”
What Phil Chen has announed
According to Cointelegraph the creator of HTC Vive and HTC’s head of business and corporate development, Phil Chen, said at the time that he had a product in mind which would let customers “truly own their data […] without the need for central authorities,”
On the other hand, according to The Verge , Chen said that a phone that lets customers own their identity is still far-fetched. The HTC Exodus, which is expected to be released by the end of 2018, contains just a native crypto wallet and CryptoKitties.
Chen also mentioned that HTC is planning to incorporate crypto mining on mobile, noting that they are already exploring opportunities by checking out different consensus protocols and may issue a white paper on the project later on this year.
Last week, the company revealed that sales in June have dropped by 68 percent, while their latest product U12 Plus has received mainly negative reviews. In early July, the company also fired 1,500 employees in Taiwan to cut its costs.
Sirin Labs which are based in Swiss told Cointelegraph this weekthat the company’s plan is to release its own cryptocurrency-friendly smartphone, the Finney, in November this year. Sirin Labs raised $157.8 million for the project during their Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in December 2017, , with $110 million collected in just first 24 hours.
The Verge also adds that although the cost of the HTC Exodus is expected to be announced by the end of Q3, Chen noted that its price would be “comparable” with the Finneyt, its competitor in the mobile blockchain space, whose expected price is around $1,000. Phil chen has also mentioned that the intention is to sell the phone globally.
Release of HTC Exodus
Actually there isn’t an exact release date for the HTC Exodus, Taiwan-based company says early access to the phone will begin around between July and September.
